A major fire broke out on Saturday at an abandoned building near the Manipur secretariat complex, close to Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s official bungalow, according to a report by PTI quoting police officials.
The fire, which started in the early hours, prompted a swift response from emergency services. Three fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the blaze was brought under control within an hour, an official confirmed.
Despite the proximity of the fire to the Chief Minister’s residence, there was no damage reported to his bungalow. In light of the incident, security around the Chief Minister’s residence was tightened as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire in the abandoned building, which belonged to the family of the late IAS officer T Kipgen, former chief secretary of Goa. The building has been vacant since violence broke out in Manipur last year.
The quick response by the fire department and the effective containment of the fire prevented what could have been a more severe incident, ensuring the safety of the nearby government buildings and the Chief Minister’s residence. The incident has raised concerns about safety and security in the area, but officials have assured that necessary measures are being taken to prevent any future occurrences.
