In a significant administrative move, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has appointed a new Director General of Police (DGP). Sri Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, IPS, has been appointed the new DGP, marking a notable shift in the state’s law enforcement leadership.
Sri Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, IPS, who has been serving as the Commissioner of the Public Transport Department and Ex Officio VC & MD of APSRTC, will now take on the critical role of Director General of Police, Coordination in the office of the Director General of Police (HoPF), Andhra Pradesh. He will also hold full additional charge of the post of Director General of Police (HoPF), Andhra Pradesh, until further orders.
Official Order Excerpt
The official order issued by the General Administration (SC.C) Department, under G.O.Rt.No.1086 dated 19.06.2024, states:
“Transfer and posting of the following IPS Officer is ordered with immediate effect: Sri Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, IPS (RR:1989), Commissioner, Public Transport Department and Ex Officio VC & MD, APSRTC is transferred and posted as Director General of Police, Coordination O/o Director General of Police (HoPF), A.P. and shall hold full additional charge of the post of Director General of Police (HoPF), A.P., until further orders.”
New DGP’s Priorities
The new DGP’s immediate priorities are clear and focused on addressing critical issues that have been plaguing the state:
- Completely Demolishing Ganja and Drugs in Andhra Pradesh: The DGP is committed to eradicating the menace of drugs, mainly focusing on the cultivation, distribution, and consumption of ganja within the state.
- Women’s Safety: Enhancing the safety and security of women is a top priority. The DGP plans to implement strict measures and comprehensive policies to ensure women feel safe and protected.
- Bringing Back Law and Order: Reestablishing law and order, which has reportedly been lacking in the last five years, is a crucial goal. The DGP aims to restore public confidence in the police force through effective law enforcement and community policing.
