The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has filed an FIR against IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, alleging that she submitted fake certificates to secure her position. The UPSC’s investigation found her guilty of manipulating her identity and providing false caste and disability documents. Consequently, the commission has issued a show-cause notice, questioning why her IAS candidature should not be terminated.
Allegations and Inquiry
Khedkar, a 2023 batch IAS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, is accused of forging her caste and medical certificates. Reports suggest she falsely claimed to belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) non-creamy layer and provided fraudulent disability certificates to receive special concessions in the UPSC exam. Additionally, she allegedly demanded unauthorized privileges, such as a separate office and staff, despite being a probationer.
Misuse of Power
Khedkar’s misuse of power extended beyond her fraudulent certificates. She reportedly used a red beacon and the Maharashtra government insignia on her private Audi vehicle, actions that were not permissible for her probationary status. The Pune police are investigating these claims, adding to the legal troubles Khedkar faces.
Family Involvement
The controversy has also engulfed Khedkar’s family. Her father, Dilip Khedkar, a retired government officer, is seeking anticipatory bail after her mother, Manorama Khedkar, was arrested for allegedly threatening a farmer with a firearm. This incident has further intensified the scrutiny on the family.
Government Actions
The Maharashtra government has transferred Khedkar from Pune to Washim following these allegations. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has constituted a single-member committee to investigate the veracity of Khedkar’s documents and her eligibility under the OBC and disability quotas. This panel, led by Additional Secretary Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, is expected to submit its report soon, which could result in severe consequences for Khedkar if found guilty.
Possible Outcomes
If the allegations against Khedkar are confirmed, she could face termination from the IAS and criminal charges for her misrepresentations. The UPSC’s stringent actions against Khedkar highlight the importance of integrity and honesty in public service, ensuring that only deserving candidates are part of the prestigious IAS.
The unfolding events surrounding Puja Khedkar’s case serve as a critical reminder of the stringent measures in place to uphold the sanctity of India’s civil services.
