Review on Heavy Rains and Floods

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has thoroughly reviewed the heavy rains and floods affecting various parts of the state. Due to the impact of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains occur in several districts. On Friday, the CM held a video conference with collectors, SPs, and officials from different departments to discuss the current situation in the rain-affected areas.

Measures to Prevent Loss

The CM emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures to prevent loss of life and property. He urged officials to assess weather forecasts and flood situations to keep the public alert. He instructed them to work with a pre-planned strategy to minimize damage. This year, the state has received 244 mm of rainfall, 31% more than the average 185 mm. Some areas have even recorded up to 13 cm of rainfall.

Monitoring and Coordination

Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need to monitor water levels in tanks and streams continuously. He pointed out that the previous government’s reckless sand and soil excavations weakened the Godavari embankments. He addressed these issues and called for coordination between irrigation and revenue departments. The CM insisted on making decisions based on the flood manual.

Efficient Disaster Management

The CM highlighted that the efficiency and performance of the officials are tested during disasters. He advised them to remain fully alert and dynamic in their approach. Instead of reacting after the rains and floods, he suggested that officials anticipate situations based on weather warnings and take preventive actions. Chandrababu Naidu criticized the YSRCP government for destroying the existing disaster management systems and urged for their reactivation.

Collectors and SPs from Alluri Sitaramaraju, West Godavari, East Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada districts, along with officials from various departments, attended the video conference.
