Police Arrest Smuggler in Pileru Forest Area

**PaperDabba News Desk** – July 9, 2024 – In a significant crackdown on red sandalwood smuggling, Task Force police arrested a smuggler in the Pileru forest area of Annamayya district. The operation, carried out under the orders of District SP Harshavardhan Raju, led to the seizure of 14 red sandalwood logs.

Operation Details

The Task Force team, led by SP Srinivas, began their combing operation on Sunday from Tirupati, moving through Kevipalli Mandal Elamanda and Manchala Mand Pipe. As part of their operation, they reached the Marella beat area. Near the Pincha River, they observed several individuals carrying red sandalwood logs. Upon noticing the police, the smugglers abandoned the logs and attempted to flee.

Arrest and Seizure

Despite their efforts to escape, the police managed to apprehend one individual, identified as Balaraman Periyaswamy, aged 44. The team seized 14 red sandalwood logs that were left behind. The search for the remaining smugglers is ongoing.

The apprehended smuggler and the seized red sandalwood logs were taken to the Tirupati Task Force police station. A case has been registered, and SI Rafi is currently investigating the matter.
