Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the law and order situation, focusing on tackling ganja and cheap liquor in the state.

Immediate Actions Ordered by the CM

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, during a review meeting at the Secretariat, emphasized the need for immediate and stringent action against crimes involving women. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha briefed the media on the CM’s directives, which include setting up special courts to expedite the trial process and ensure swift and severe punishments for the culprits.

Nandyal Incident: A Grim Reminder

The recent tragic incident in Mutchumarru, Nandyal district, where three minors were arrested in connection with the assault and subsequent disappearance of a young girl, has sparked outrage. Despite multiple interrogations, the whereabouts of the victim remain unknown. Police, along with NDRF teams, are conducting extensive search operations. The CM has issued stern orders to leave no stone unturned in this case and to ensure the culprits face the harshest punishments.

Financial Assistance to Victims

In light of the heinous crimes, financial assistance has been sanctioned for the victims’ families. The Nandyal victim’s family will receive Rs. 10 lakh financial aid. In comparison, the family of the six-month-old rape victim in Vizianagaram district will receive Rs. 5 lakh in the form of a fixed deposit. The Home Minister assured that these compensations will be personally handed over to the families soon.

Particular Focus on the Vizianagaram Incident

In a heart-wrenching incident in Ramabhadrapuram Mandal, Vizianagaram district, a six-month-old baby girl was subjected to a rape attempt by her relative. Terming it a disgraceful act, the Home Minister stated that such criminals should not be allowed to roam free in society. She emphasized the need for immediate legal actions and stricter punishments to instill fear among potential offenders.

Combating Substance Abuse

The Home Minister also highlighted the role of substance abuse in escalating crimes against women. She stressed the urgent need to curb the sale and consumption of ganja and fake liquor, which often lead to such heinous acts. The government plans to establish de-addiction centers and create awareness among parents and school children about the dangers of substance abuse.

Technology and Parental Vigilance

Another crucial point raised by the Home Minister was the influence of pornographic sites and unrestricted access to mobile phones on minors. She urged parents to be more vigilant and monitor their children’s online activities. Schools will also play a key role in educating students about the negative impacts of such content.

Legislative Measures for Protection

The state government is working on drafting new laws that mandate stringent punishments for offenders. These laws aim to create a deterrent effect, ensuring anyone contemplating such crimes is too afraid to act.

The state government’s resolve to tackle crimes against women is evident through these comprehensive measures. With immediate actions, financial support for victims, and a focus on prevention through education and legal reforms, Andhra Pradesh aims to set a precedent in ensuring safety and justice for women.
