Heavy rains across the state have caused widespread flooding, severely affecting the Godavari River and other areas. CPI State Secretary K. Ramakrishna has demanded immediate relief efforts to help the flood victims, especially in the severely hit regions of Pedda Vagu and the Godavari flood areas.
Widespread Flooding in Pedda Vagu and Godavari Regions
The CPI delegation, led by K. Ramakrishna, along with members Akkineni Vanaja, Dega Prabhakar, and CPI Eluru District Secretary M. Krishna Chaitanya, visited the flood-affected areas in Velairupadu and Kukkunuru mandals of West Godavari district. They observed the extensive damage caused by the heavy rains and the breach of the Pedda Vagu project, which has left thousands of families homeless.
Ramakrishna emphasized that continuous heavy rains have caused severe problems for rural and urban populations. The breach in the Pedda Vagu project has resulted in significant losses, displacing thousands of families and causing extensive agricultural damage due to sand deposition over thousands of acres. The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments have been urged to respond immediately to this crisis.
Government’s Negligence Highlighted
Ramakrishna criticized previous governments’ negligence, pointing out that many projects, including Pedda Vagu, have not received proper funding and maintenance. He mentioned that even in the past, significant projects like Annamayya and Pincha in Jaganmohan Reddy’s district were neglected, leading to similar disasters.
The recent heavy rains and floods have exacerbated the people’s suffering. Immediate government intervention is necessary to provide relief and rehabilitate the affected population. Ramakrishna demanded that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu allocate sufficient funds to reconstruct the Pedda Vagu project and provide immediate relief to the 15 affected villages.
Urgent Relief and Rehabilitation Measures Needed
The Godavari River is also swelling due to continuous heavy rains, causing fear and displacement among residents. Ramakrishna stressed the importance of providing immediate rehabilitation for those affected by the Godavari floods. The CPI delegation also urged the government to compensate farmers who lost their crops and assist those who lost their homes.
Akkineni Vanaja, Dega Prabhakar, and Krishna Chaitanya echoed these sentiments, calling for immediate government action to support the flood-affected communities. They emphasized the need for permanent solutions for the displaced people, particularly in the Polavaram submerged areas, which Dalits and Tribals predominantly inhabit.
In conclusion, the CPI representatives highlighted the need for the government to focus on these neglected areas and provide lasting solutions to the recurring flood problems. They pledged to bring the dire situation of the flood-affected areas to the attention of the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister.
