Over A Million People Under Power Blackouts As Russian Strikes Continue: Ukraine Prez

More than a million Ukrainian households have been left without power as a result of Russian strikes on energy facilities across the country, according to the deputy head of the Ukrainian presidency on Saturday. 

“As of now, 672,000 subscribers have been disconnected in Khmelnytskyi region, 188,400 in Mykolaiv region, 102,000 in Volyn region, 242,000 in Cherkasy region, 174,790 in Rivne region, 61,913 in Kirovograd region and 10,500 in Odessa region,” Kyrylo Tymoshenko stated, news agency AFP reported.

Following reports of strikes on energy infrastructure that caused power outages all over the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Saturday that Russia had launched a “massive attack” on Ukraine overnight, AFP reported.

According to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a deputy chief of staff for President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Oct. 22 cut off power supplies to 672,000 households in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, 188,400 in Mykolaiv Oblast, 102,000 in Volyn Oblast, 242,000 in Cherkasy Oblast, 174,790 in Rivne Oblast, 61,913 in Kirovoh Repairs in these areas are currently underway, he added.

Adviser to the Head of the Office of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Twitter, “By striking critical infrastructure, Kremlin wants to provoke new refugees flee to Europe. Whether Putin will be able to implement his plan depends on European capitals’ leaders. The only way to stop humanitarian catastrophe — transfer air defense and additional missiles fast.”
