Amit Shah Reviews J&K Security Situation After Series Of Infiltration Bids, Attacks On Soldiers

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting and reviewed the situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said as reported by news agency PTI. Shah directed security forces to continue their efforts through well-planned counter-terror operations to wipe out terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Union Home Minister asked security forces and the police to continue with the coordinated efforts through meticulous and well-planned counter-terrorism operations to wipe out terrorism. He also said people of Jammu and Kashmir would decisively defeat the proxy war with the help of security forces,” an official statement said as reported by news agency PTI.

Many other top officials including Union Territory Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval were present. Security and development work in Jammu and Kashmir was discussed in the meeting. For the first time after the Amarnath Yatra, the Home Minister called a high-level meeting on Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the information, in this high-level meeting, NSA Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Army Chief Manoj Pandey, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha with Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Chief Samant Goel, CRPF DD Kuldeep Singh, BSF Chief Pankaj Singh and Director General of NIA Dinkar Gupta participated.

The high-level meeting was convened on the situation of Union Territory under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after Lord Shri Amarnath Yatra. Before the Amarnath Yatra began, Shah had called meetings on May 17 and June 3 to review security arrangements for the pilgrimage, development works and some targeted killings by terrorists. This year 3.65 lakh pilgrims participated in the Amarnath Yatra.

Three infiltrators were killed by the security workforce along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kamalkote area of Uri on Thursday.

There have been at least three infiltration bids by terrorists from across the line over the most recent four days in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Wednesday, in an interrogation conducted on the captured fidayeen suicide attacker from PoK Tabarak Hussain, it has been revealed that he was tasked by Pakistan Army’s Col. Yunus to attack the Indian Army for around Rs 30,000. 

In a video posted by news agency ANI, Tabarak can be seen revealing his plans to launch an attack on the Indian army to disturb peace in the Jammu region but was successfully eliminated within 48 hours of two infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector of Rajouri district, said Army’s 80 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier Kapil Rana.
