Delhi’s Saket court today extended the remand of the murder accused Aftab Poonawala, who allegedly killed and dismembered his live-in partner Shraddha Walker’s body parts in May this year, by four days on the demand of the police today. During the hearing, Aftab told the court that the incident “happened in the heat of the moment” and that he is having “difficulty in recalling the incident.”
Here are the top developments:
Adv A Kumar, Aftab’s legal aid counsel, said that Aftab can’t recall everything at once and was provoked to take such a gruesome step. “Aftab said he can’t recall everything at once but will inform as he does. He used a single word for victim & said he was provoked. Police will probably take him for site visit for evidence collection. Narco test soon,” he said as reported by ANI. He confessed during the police interrogation that he had disposed of the saw and blade he used in chopping up the body near his office in the bushes of Gurugram’s DLF Phase 3, the police sources said. The police, however, couldn’t find the murder weapon even after searching the area for two days. According to the police, the search operation will be carried out once more on Wednesday and this time Aftab might be allowed to accompany them. Delhi Police has so far recovered a total of 18 bones, including part of the jaw of the face, according to sources. “On the first day of the investigation on November 18, the Delhi Police team found some evidence from the bushes of Gurugram, which has been sent for Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) investigation. However, on the second day on November 19 of the investigation the Delhi Police searched with a metal detector but did not find anything there,” police sources said as reported by ANI. Delhi Police sources further said that the accused Aftab threw the cleaver knife into a garbage dump in the Mehrauli area. He has been misleading the investigation by giving different responses when asked about the location where he threw the weapon used to kill Shraddha and the place where he disposed of her head, sources told ABP News. Meanwhile, a Delhi court has ordered Rohini Forensic Science Lab to conduct a narco test of accused Aftab Poonawala within five days. The police have also approached the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to conduct a Polygraphic test on the accused Aftab. “Delhi Police has approached Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to conduct a Polygraphic test for Shraddha Murder Case accused Aftab. Preparations are underway. The test might be conducted today,” FSL sources told ANI. Aftab killed his live-in partner Shraddha on May 18 by strangling her. He then cut her corpse into 35 pieces with a saw and preserved them in a fridge for almost three weeks at their flat before disposing of them over several days.
