PaperDabba News Desk – July 10, 2024 Senior IPS officer Jitender has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana. On Wednesday, he officially took charge of his new position following the government’s orders issued earlier in the day.
Background and Career
Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS officer, hails from a farming family in Jalandhar, Punjab. Before his recent appointment, he was serving as the Principal Secretary of Home Affairs and also held the additional responsibilities of Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement.
Early Assignments in Telangana
Jitender’s career began with assignments as ASP in Nirmal and Bellampalli in Telangana. He later served as SP in districts heavily affected by Naxal activities, such as Mahabubnagar and Guntur.
Experience in Various Roles
He has also worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi and handled responsibilities with the elite Greyhounds force between 2004 and 2006. Furthermore, he served as DIG of the Visakhapatnam Range and during the Telangana movement, he was the DIG of Warangal Range.
Contributions to Law Enforcement
Jitender’s extensive experience includes significant roles in Andhra Pradesh CID, Enquiry Commission, and Vigilance and Enforcement. In Hyderabad, he served as the Additional Commissioner of Traffic, contributing to the improvement of the city’s traffic management.
Jitender’s appointment as the DGP of Telangana is seen as a positive move, given his vast experience and previous contributions to law enforcement. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the state’s security and policing efforts.
