Four men have been charged after more than 3000 cannabis plants were found north of Adelaide.

SA Police raided eight semi-rural and northern suburbs properties on Monday as part of an investigation into the large commercial cultivation of cannabis.

They seized 3190 marijuana plants and several other items of prescribed equipment.

Police will allege it was an ongoing operation as the plants were at various stages of maturity.

Four men aged 44, 42, 40 and 21 were arrested and charged with cultivating a large commercial amount of cannabis.

They were all refused bail and appeared in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

A 38-year-old man was also reported for cultivating the drug.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.
