A man has been detained and charged with murdering a nine-month-old boy two weeks after Queensland Police renewed a public appeal to find him.

Andrew Campbell, 41, from Bellbowrie was charged with the murder of baby Dexter Wilton as well as interfere with corpse and neglect.

He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Detectives released an image of Mr Campbell late last year, appealing to the public for information.

He is the second person to be arrested and charged with murder following Dexter’s death in June 2019.

Dexter’s mother Natalie Whitehead, 34, has been charged with murder, interfering with a corpse and six counts of failing to supply the necessities of life.

Police were called to Ms Whitehead’s Sonter St property at Raceview after paramedics found the nine-month-old’s body inside on June 21, 2019.

A crime scene was established and an investigation was launched.

“There have been a number of medical tests and pathology reports, we will be alleging that the cause of death was as a result of neglect,” Detective Inspector David Briese said previously.

Ms Whitehead’s lawyer Bettina Webb has previously said her client was “shocked” by the charges and would plead not guilty.
