A man has been found clinging to a navigation beacon north of Brisbane, hours after his boat ran aground.
Dramatic vision captures the moment rescuers find the 64-year-old man setting off flares atop of the structure.
No one but a dog was on-board the 17-metre vessel when it was discovered at the northern tip of Bribie Island at 4pm on Tuesday, sparking a multi-agency search and rescue operation.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was dispatched at 6.15pm, working alongside the Queensland Police, Coast Guard, and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
A nearby ship spotted a man standing at the top of a navigation beacon shortly after.
The rescue helicopter rushed to the beacon and hovered over the man, keeping a light on him while waiting for police and Coast Guard boats to arrive.
The man was taken ashore on-board one of the boats shortly after 7pm.
Queensland Police said in a statement the recovery of the vessel is ongoing.
