The first official trailer has dropped for Coming 2 America, featuring original stars Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall.

The highly-anticipated Coming to America sequel follows Murphy’s beloved King Akeem as travels from his African nation of Zamunda to Queens, New York for another adventure.

The Coming 2 America trailer reunites longtime fans with the Zamundan royal family, the leaders of a wealthy and powerful African nation.

Decades after he first travelled to the United States to find a bride, Akeem is living comfortably as the heir to the throne alongside his wife Lisa (Shari Headley). However, when he discovers that he has a long-lost son, a Queens native named Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), Akeem and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) return to New York in an attempt to find the crown prince and fulfil his father’s dying wish of continuing the royal lineage.

In addition to Murphy, Hall, and Headley, multiple Coming to America stars are set to reprise their roles from the 1988 comedy classic in the sequel, including James Earl Jones (King Jaffe Joffer), Jon Amos (Cleo McDowell), and Louie Anderson (Maurice).

The Coming 2 America trailer also gives fans a first look at performances from franchise newcomers like Fowler, Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Teyana Taylor.

Directed by frequent Eddie Murphy collaborator Craig Brewer, Coming 2 America was originally produced for distribution by Paramount Pictures. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Paramount opted to sell the rights to Amazon Prime Video in a reported $US125 million deal. In November, Amazon confirmed that it had acquired worldwide streaming rights to the sequel and announced that it would debut in March 2021 in more than 240 countries and territories.

In addition to starring, Murphy serves as a producer on the film alongside Kevin Misher. Brian Oliver, Bradley Fischer, Valerii An, Kenya Barris, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Michele Imperato Stabile, and Andy Berman are credited as executive producers. Coming 2 America was written by black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield, with a story by Blaustein, Sheffield and Justin Kanew.
