More than 200 people including 60 patients have been evacuated from Westmead hospital due to a fire in the basement, NSW fire has said.
Two hundred people including 60 patients have been evacuated from Westmead hospital due to a fire in the building’s basement.
Fire and Rescue NSW responded to the call around 6:30pm on Friday.
Multiple crews from Fire Stations across Sydney, arrived shortly after to find large volumes of smoke issuing from the hospital’s loading dock, the service said.
A large fire was found in the substation of the basement which crews are working to extinguish.
Pictures showed patients and staff gathered outside.
NSW Police and NSW Ambulance are in attendance although no injuries have been reported so far.
