If you’re of a certain age you probably have fond memories of collecting and trading Pokemon cards — you might even have some still laying around.

It’s worth checking your collection.

The cards are increasingly selling for massive amounts, with one famous collector recently dropping more than $US220,000 ($A305,000) on a single card.

When you think of things a famous rapper might collect (based on music videos at least) you’d probably jump straight to things like exotic cars or custom jewellery.

Two-time Grammy nominated, recently retired rapper Logic, 30, collects Pokemon cards, but for him it’s not really about what characters appear on the cards he collects.

“It’s about the experience,” the rapper said on Instagram announcing his latest additions to the collection.

“When I was a kid I absolutely loved Pokemon but couldn’t afford the cards. I remember even trying to trade food stamps … now as an adult who has saved every penny he has made being able to enjoy something that I’ve loved since childhood now as a grown man is like buying back a piece of something I could never have,” he said.

According to the website CardHops, which keeps track of these sort of things, his winning bid of $US183,812 was enough to secure the first-edition 1999 Charizard holographic.

Add on to that the 20 per cent premium charged by the auctioneer, and according to CardHops you have a new record for that specific, and very rare card.

Logic confirmed he was behind the bid to streamer and vlogger Logan Paul, who recently spent $US216,000 on a box of the cards himself.

The rare Charizard joins another Charizard and a Raichu card the rapper recently lucked upon after spending $US23,000 ($A31,000) on a number of unopened packs.

Last year a super rare Pikachu illustrator card — one of 39 awarded to winners of a comic competition in Japan in the late 90s, but of which only 10 are thought to remain — sold for $US195,000 ($A270,000).

Back in July another of the cards sold for around $A345,000.
