It’s a great concept and I’m pretty confident that I can go well, although I say that about every horse I back, but you’ve always got to be confident when you go to the track. I’m really looking forward to it, it’s my first go at SuperCoach Racing – I get bagged a lot on radio for my racing selections – but hopefully we’ll be more than competitive.

I’ve picked Classique Legend because when Les Bridge says that it’s the best horse he’s trained I think you have to sit up and listen. He’s trained so many wonderful horses. Kerrin McEvoy is riding, he won his last start, is getting primed for The Everest and he’s flying. I think he’ll be hard to beat.

Rock was very good at Newcastle last start. He won well and has got a great turn of foot. He’s drawn a little bit wide but if he gets clear running he’ll be storming home.

James McDonald has got a good book of rides, he’s proven himself to be one of the premier jockeys in Sydney, particularly here in Sydney and anytime he’s on a horse you know it’s got a good chance.

How good is it for sport lovers in Victoria? Not only have we got the AFL finals but the best horse racing in the land.

With my stable I’m focusing on the good trainers who know how to win. Danny O’Brien is definitely one I’ll be following every week. You can’t have Russian Camelot this week but he’ll be the first picked every time he runs. I’m going to go with Fabric from his stable. He’s also a good Hawthorn man, and in 2007 we were at the airport for our footy trip to Vegas and Danny told us Master O’Reilly could win the Caulfield Cup. We celebrated like we won the premiership – it made a lot of Hawthorn players very happy.

I’m making sure I have a horse from Ciaron Maher and David Eustance. Enthaar is in race two in Sydney and he trialled like Phar Lap.

I’m also expecting Hungry Heart to win.

Kerrin McEvoy is my jockey. I was on a zoom call earlier this week and Kerrin said Classique Legend was working the house down. That’s good enough for me and I’m throwing him in, hoping he can beat Nature Strip.

I’ve never done any SuperCoach before in any code. I think it creates an interest for the sport and I’m interested to see how my stables goes.

I think Verry Elleegant is in for a very nice spring so I’m looking forward to seeing how she travels down to Melbourne. She was one that I wanted to have in my team.

I went Dame Giselle as my captain because Hungry Heart has failed to get over the two of her in their last two starts. Drawing barrier one she is going to get a nice run and I think she’ll get the nod again.

Maurice’s Medad is obviously by Maurice, he’s a first-season sire that stands at Arrowfield and we actually owned the half-sister to Maurice Medad’s dam (Presslist), which is Press Review, and they’re both the half-sisters to Press Statement and Pressday, two Group 1 winners. So there’s a bit of a biased interest there.

TEAM: WA BLACK HEARTS

Superstorm $375,000

Mugatoo $325,000

Dame Giselle $222,000

Hungry Heart (C) $200,000

Montefilia $175,000

September Run $175,000

General Beau $125,000

Construct $100,000

Enthaar $100,000

Total Babe $100,000

Miravalle (emg) $75,000

Jockey: James McDonald

I have played it strategically in week one using up the bulk of my salary cap to play a few horses in the seven-horse horse field in the Flight Stakes to try get maximum Group 1 points in a small field. Hungry Heart and Dame Giselle Giselle are obvious choices, and I’ve added Montefilia while Miravalle is the emergency.

It wouldn’t be a team from a WA girl without including some Cerise and White.

Superstorm is still green around corners, so the long Flemington straight will be advantageous for him to wind up. Stepping up from 1400m to 2000m may be a concern for some, but Grant and Alana Williams are master trainers!
