A recent Instagram post by Jake Gyllenhaal received a brutal albeit hilarious response from Taylor Swift fans.

Firstly, here’s some background info.

Swift and Gyllenhaal dated for a four months at the end of 2010.

The actor, who is nine years older than Swift, was rumoured to have dumped the singer over the phone.

Swift went on to write a number of songs about her brief relationship with Gyllenhaal for her Red album.

One of those songs was All Too Well, which the singer explained on Good Morning America wasn’t easy to pen.

“All Too Well was the hardest to write because it took me a long time to filter through everything I wanted to say,” she said. “It started out being a 10-minute song, which you can’t put on an album. I had to filter it down to a story that could work in the form of a song.”

Some of the lyrics include:

Photo album on the counter

Your cheeks were turning red

You used to be a little kid with glasses in a twin-sized bed

And your mother’s telling stories ‘bout you on the tee-ball team

You tell me ‘bout your past, thinking your future was me

Which brings us back to Gyllenhaal’s recent Instagram post.

The Love and Other Drugs star shared a childhood photo of himself to promote a charity organisation called New Eyes which provides glasses to those in need.

In the sweet photo, Gyllenhaal is a little kid with glasses … JUST LIKE THE LYRICS.

Anyway, Swift fans immediately started referencing the line from the song in the comments section of Gyllenhaal’s post.

Here’s some of the comments:

• Is it true you used to be a lil kid with glasses in a twin sized bed?

• TS was right. “you used to be a little kid with glasses in a twin sized-bed”

• “You used to be a little kid with glasses in a twin sized bed” – if you know, you know

• U posted this pic and thought that the swifties would do nothing???? mistake

• Were you on a tee-ball team too?

• Swifties own this comment area so back off ordinary ppl

• Swifties turning this post into an “all too well” sing along … we love Jake Gyllenhaal for giving us RED

Even actress Rachel Zegler, who is set to star in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story film coming out next year, commented on the post, writing: “I’ll be honest mate you set yourself up for this one.”

All Too Well isn’t the only song Swift wrote about Gyllenhaal. Apparently We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is also about the actor.

Swift explained the inspiration behind that song on GMA, saying: “This guy walks in who is a friend of my ex’s and starts talking about how he’s heard we’re going to get back together. And that was not the case. So I start telling them the story: break up, get back together, break up, get back together — just, ugh, the worst! And I picked up the guitar and (songwriting partner Max Martin) said, ‘This is what we’re writing.’”
