Police have reached out to the public for help after a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the Riverina region of NSW.
It is believed the girl was attacked by an unknown man as she was walking down Pine Ave in the town Leeton sometime in August or September last year.
Police believe the girl was taken to a different place nearby where she was sexually assaulted. The incident occurred between 4pm and 4.30pm on a weekday, police wrote in a media release.
Detectives have released a sketch of a man they believe could assist their investigation.
The comfit image shows a man police describe as “being aged in his 20s or 30s, of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a tanned complexion, brown hair, [unkempt] facial hair and a wrinkled forehead”.
Police think the man was wearing black tracksuit trousers and a grey jumper.
Anyone who recognises the man or who has other information about the incident is urged to come forward and contact the police.
The case is being handled by Strike Force Lynbrae, which was established to investigate the sexual assault claim by the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad in March this year.
