Miami has taken Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals after a thrilling overtime boilover on Wednesday.

Bam Adebayo stood up with the game on the line to produce one of the craziest defensive plays seen in years to deny Jayson Tatum at the rim and seal victory for the Heat.

Adebayo’s freakish ability to contort his wrist backwards and absorb the powerful jam from Tatum as the Celtics star soared above the rim proved the difference in a wild overtime period.

Tatum had appeared certain to tie the game at 116-116 with three seconds on the clock before Adebayo exploded off the ground to deny him with his wrist contorted back over the ring.

Adebayo followed up the clean rejection by grabbing the loose ball rebound and going up the other end to hit one of his two free throws when the Celtics were forced to send him to the line.

It gave Tatum one last desperate shot to win the game from way down town — but his shot banged off the rim to give the Heat a 117-114 win.

NBA legend Magic Johnson called Adebayo’s block one of the best defensive plays of all time.

“Bam Adebayo’s block on Jayson Tatum’s dunk attempt was the best defensive play I’ve seen ever in the playoffs,” Johnson posted on Twitter.

The NBA was all shook up watching the different angles of Adebayo’s silky defence.

NBA commentator Kevin O’Connor posted on Twitter: “Bam Adebayo with one of the best blocks in playoff history. And no doubt the best since LeBron’s chase down on Andre Igoudala. I still can’t get over it. THIS IS UNREAL”.

Portland Trailblazers star MJ McCollum was also blown away.

“Wow. That was incredible. Timing and block with the left for the game,” he wrote on Twitter.

Adebayo’s heroics even overshadowed Jimmy Butler’s freakish shooting which dragged the Heat into overtime.

The Celtics coughed up a 12-point lead at three-quarter time as the Heat caught fire down the stretch.

Butler nailed a clutch three with 22 seconds to play to steal the lead in regular time.

Tatum was send to the line at the death with a chance to win it without the need for overtime — but was only able to slot one of his two free throws.

In the chaotic final seconds Tatum missed another three from downtown — and those misses came back to bite him.

Tatum finished with a game-high 30 points, but he would have given anything to trade that honour to be in Adebayo’s shoes.

Adebayo finished with 18 points, six rebounds, nine assists and two blocks while Goran Dragic also had 29 points and seven rebounds for the Heat.
