The Battle for Los Angeles was over before it began after the Clippers were stunned by Denver in Game 7 of their Western Conference series on Wednesday.

The Clippers, the highest ranked team in the West, were bounced out before the conference finals after giving up a 3-1 lead to Denver.

Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic executed another dramatic series fightback from the brink to roll on through to a showdown with LeBron James and the Lakers.

For the Clippers, there is only the off-season and the stinging criticism that will follow them for the next 12 months.

The most scathing message was delivered cold by Trailblazers star Damian Lillard when he added insult to injury for Clippers star Pat Beverley.

Lillard was the last person the demoralised Clippers wanted to hear from after they fell 104-89 in Game 7 on Wednesday.

Jamal Murray, who finished with 40 points, embarrassed Clippers stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who combined for just 24 points, shooting a combined 10 of 38 from the field.

Beverley had 11 points for the Clippers.

Beverley and Lillard have traded verbal barbs in recent weeks after Beverley was spotted cheering and waving his arms cheered and waved his arms frantically from the bench as Portland Trail Blazers guard as Lillard missed a pair of free throws during his team’s regular season loss to the Clippers in the Florida bubble last month.

It reached a new low when Beverley commented on a photo of Lillard and the Blazers before their season-ending loss to the Lakers with a cheeky Instagram message.

“Cancun on 3,” Beverley wrote, suggesting the Blazers were about to be bounced.

Beverley and Paul George delighted in seeing the Blazers eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with reports suggesting George and Dame still have beef lingering from Portland’s win over the Thunder last year.

Now, on Wednesday, Lillard got to have his revenge after the Clippers became the biggest flops this playoffs campaign.

“@patbev21I guess I should extend this Cancun invite since I haven’t made my arrangements yet,” Lillard posted on Twitter with a series of laughing emojis that gave Beverley a smack on his way out the door.

Celtics legend Paul Pierce summed up the Clippers’ day of misery with succinct tweet: “This is nightmare for the clips”.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson didn’t mince his words when he slammed the Clippers: “The Clippers choked again. They choked against Houston in 2015 and they choked tonight against the Denver Nuggets”.

Portland star CJ McCollum went even harder — suggesting the Clippers tanked to start their vacations earlier than scheduled.

“I am shocked. I thought there was no way they would lose this series,” McCollum posted on Twitter.

“I honestly can’t believe it. I thought they would win before it. Then they got up 3-1 and I thought it was over.”

McCollum also paid respect to the Nuggets for their inspired comeback.

He posted on Twitter: “They really came back from down 1-3 twice and Thrill not even with the team. That’s wild. Them boys really the come back kids. That’s some legendary stuff.”
