Singer and reality star Aubrey O’Day has hit back after paparazzi pictures of her looking completely unrecognisable were published in the media this week.

The usually high-glam former Danity Kane girl group member is truly unrecognisable in the photos, which show her walking her two dogs around Palm Springs, California, last week.

It was the first time she had been photographed in public since October 2019.

But as the pictures circulated, O’Day took to extreme measures, posting a photo of herself at home in a black bathing suit, holding a sign marking the time and date as 9pm August 31, across her Twitter and Instagram stories:

“It’s so sick what ppl will do for clickbait!” she tweeted. “And that my lawyer needed this photo to defend me against it. When is this industry going to stop abusing women’s bodies! Sorry my place is a mess, currently remodelling my glam room – I’m sure it’ll be written that I’m a hoarder next!”

Page Six reports that the paparazzi photos of O’Day were taken on Thursday last week. In a statement to that outlet, O’Day’s lawyer, Ben Walter said: “The photos came to this firm’s attention last night, which is why legal action has not taken place yet.”

“Aubrey’s post speaks for itself,” he said of O’Day’s response to the photos. “The person in the paparazzi photos is not the same person in the picture that Aubrey shared on Instagram, in that the photo has been altered in an unflattering manner. It’s clear to see that there are noticeable differences between the two photos.”

“Aubrey has shared an unedited photo to put this issue to bed quickly. While it appears that body shaming has become the norm (e.g. comments were made earlier this year about Jason Momoa and are frequently made about female celebrities), Aubrey will not tolerate it, nor will she allow others to manipulate her image, and finds it sad that this is a newsworthy topic given the current climate of the world,” her lawyer added.

O’Day’s most recent Instagram post was an ad for the ‘Flat Tummy app’.

“Nothing beats a poolside workout, and with my new @flattummyapp I can do my workout anywhere, anytime,” the sponsored post read:

And in a video posted to her Instagram stories today in the wake of the photo furore, O’Day posed in a bikini and announced she’d be spending “all day by the pool”:
