A second man has been charged after allegedly hitting a man in the head with a hammer in broad daylight in the Sydney CBD last month.

About 1.20pm on Saturday, July 11, a 28-year-old man was walking along Systrum St in Ultimo when he was approached by a man who hit him multiple times in the head with a hammer.

The 28-year-old called police as his alleged attacker fled the scene in a black 4WD.

Officers arrived to find the man suffering serious lacerations to his head, and he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with a fractured skull.

Following a lengthy investigation, police arrested a 31-year-old man in the ACT on Thursday, July 30.

He was extradited and charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to a person and remains before the court.

On Tuesday, a 25-year-old man was arrested at Day St police station.

He was also charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to a person.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court on Tuesday.
