Mohanlal is celebrating his 60th birthday today with his family in Kerala. On this special day, the actor announced the sequel to his superhit film, Drishyam, which released in 2013.
Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph, became the first Malayalam film to garner over Rs 50 crore at the box office. Sharing the announcement, Mohanlal released a teaser to introduce the core team of the sequel.
The 20 second-long teaser has a shot of Mohanlal’s character Georgekutty slowly opening his eyes. Titled Drishyam 2: The Resumption, the film will be produced by Antony Perumbavoor. Mohanlal wrote, “#Drishyam #Drishyam 2 (sic).”

The sequel will follow the life of Mohanlal’s character Georgekutty, who hatches a clever plan to cover up a murder committed by his daughter as an act of self-defence. No one, except him, knows what he did with the culprit’s body.
The shooting of Drishyam 2 will begin as soon as the Kerala government allows the film industry to resume production work. Drishyam 2 is in pre-production and the rest of the cast and crew will be announced soon.
Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph had collaborated for a Malayalam film called Ram. However, the film’s shooting was halted because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
