Remember the time when Randeep Hooda transformed himself for his role in Omung Kumar’s directorial venture Sarbjit in 2016? Randeep had to drastically lose weight to fit the titular role in Sarbjit, a film that also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. As Omung’s film completes 4 years of its release today, Randeep has taken us back to the days when the actor had shed 18 kg in 28 days to play Sarbjit.
The actor instagrammed a throwback selfie that was captured the same year as the film’s release. In the photo, Randeep as Sarbjit looks exceptionally skinny and is sporting messy hair and a beard. He has injury marks all over his chest that did complete justice to his character in the film. One can see just how dedicated Randeep was to this role as we revisit the black-and-white picture on the occasion.
While the photo is old, Randeep has something new to say in the caption about his physical transformation. “Almost took the life outta me #4yearsofsarbjit #sarbjit (sic),” the Sarbjit actor wrote.
Based on true events, Sarbjit saw Randeep in the lead role of Sarbjit Singh, an Indian Sikh farmer who was convicted of spying in Pakistan and had been accused of a series of bomb blasts in Lahore and Faisalabad in 1990. In real life, Sarbjit spent more than two decades in prison and eventually died in 2013 after other prisoners attacked him in a Lahore jail. Aishwarya was cast as Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur who fought for years to save him. Randeep and Aishwarya’s camaraderie as the brother-sister duo was well-received by the audience.
Director Omung also remembered the 2016 movie on his Instagram handle. He shared different posters of Sarbjit on the occasion and paid a tribute to real-life siblings Sarbit Singh and Dalbir Kaur remembering their special bond. The filmmaker also thanked the cast and crew in his post.
“A true sister is a friend who listens with her heart..and a true brother loves you more than anything else in the world. Sharing memories of #Sarbjit, kudos to the whole team for their dedication and uncompromising hardwork evolving an idea into a beautiful two hour feature film, a tribute to the most special bond between two siblings. #4yearsofSarbjit And thank to all my cast and crew for making such a beautiful film (sic),” Omung wrote.
The Sarbjit director also shared a behind-the-scenes video from the sets of the film. See his post here:
In 2016, Randeep Hooda had shared the same look with his fans on social media. Randeep also worked in Do Lafzon Ki Kahani the same year, and he weighed 94 kg at the time. But later, he lost 28 kg for Omung Kumar’s movie.
“From 94 kg of #DLKK to 66 kg for #Sarbjit.. It’s been a roller coaster ride in the same year .. Pls enjoy ur food (sic),” the actor tweeted four years ago.
