Critically acclaimed Bollywood and Hollywood actor Irrfan passed away on April 29 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, leaving the entire nation in shock. The 53-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital on April 28 due to a colon infection.
While Irrfan is no longer with us, he will live forever through the legacy of the films he left behind. One of Irrfan’s films, Piku, completes five years of release today. The film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, also starred Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan. Deepika played the titular role of Piku while Irrfan played the role of her love interest, Rana Chaudhary. Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Piku’s father.
On the occasion of the film completing five years of release, Deepika shared a throwback photo on Instagram with her co-star Irrfan. She captioned it with lyrics of the song Lamhe Guzar Gaye from the film. The actress also wrote “Rest in Peace my Dear Friend.”
Deepika and Irrfan’s chemistry in Piku was lauded by fans. The film released on May 8, 2015.
Meanwhile, a video of Deepika and Irrfan from the screening of XXX: Return of Xander Cage went viral yesterday. The film marked Deepika’s first Hollywood project and Irrfan was present at the screening in Mumbai. In the video, Deepika was seen hugging his Piku co-star as he walked in and saying, “This is an amazing person. He is my most favourite person.”
Irrfan was battling cancer for the past two years. The actor’s last release was Angrezi Medium. He is survived by wife Sutapa Sikder, and sons Babil and Ayan.
