Virat Kohli overtakes Brian Lara to become fastest batsman in history to complete 18000 international runs

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is on a record-breaking spree in the ongoing five-match series against England. The run machine adds some extra fuel to his engine every time he steps out on the field with his bat. Kohli on Saturday completed his 18000 international runs and became the quickest to do so by overtaking legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara. The Indian skipper has achieved this feat in 382 innings while Lara took 411 innings to complete 18000 runs. Another cricket legend and Kohli’s idol Sachin Tendulkar took 412 innings to do the same.

With this Kohli has also joined the elite list of Indian players to complete 18000 international runs which only include ‘Trinity’ of former cricketers; Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. The way that Kohli is registering his name in every batting record book, there will surely be a time when he will be ruling it.

He has been fighting for his team alone on this entire series and created several chances for the visitors to win the matches but poor assistance from other batsman has pulled him down.

While on the day two, India’s susceptibility to quality swing bowling once again came to the fore as they struggled to reach 174 for six after England’s tail wagged considerably to give the hosts an upper hand on the second day of the fifth and final Test at The Oval on Saturday.

India still trail England by another 158 runs with four wickets in hand and three full day’s play remaining in the match.
