Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is currently undergoing treatment by a team of doctors under the supervision of AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria, is now stable and responding to medicines. 

Vajpayee was admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a urinary tract infection on Monday.

Vajpayee’s first term lasted for 13 days, his second term lasted for 13 months while his third term continued till the completion of his full tenure.

He was prime minister from May 16 – June 1, 1996 and then from March 19, 1998 – May 22, 2004.

Vajpayee-led NDA lost out to Sonia Gandhi-led UPA in 2004 general elections.

After his first stint as prime minister that lasted for 13 days, Vajpayee appeared in Mr. Rajat Sharma’s popular Aap Ki Adalat show and talked about various important issues during the interview.

The Aap Ki Adalat show was recorded and aired ahead of 1999 Lok Sabha elections.

At the end of the interview, the senior BJP leader also recited his favourite poem ‘Aao phirse diya jalayein’ (Let’s light the lamp again).

Here’s the text of the poem the former PM recited at the end of Aap Ki Adalat show with Mr Sharma

“Aao phirse diya jalayein, Aao phirse diya jalayein

bhari doopari mein andhiyara, sooraj parchayi se hara
Antar tamka neh nichore, bhuji hui bati sulkayein,
Aao fphirse diya jalayein, Aao phirse diya jalayein…..
Hum padav ko samjhe manzil, Hum padav ko samjhe manzil
Lakshay hua aakhon se oojhal,
Vartaman moh jal mein, aane wale kal naa bhulayein,
Aao phirse diya jalayein, Aao phirse diya jalayein…..
Aahuti baaki yagya adhura,
Aapno ke vighano neh ghera,
Antim jai ka vajra banane, navdadij hadiya galayein

Vajpayee was the prime minister between 1999 and 2004. As his health deteriorated, he slowly withdrew from public life and has been confined to his residence for many years. The BJP had celebrated Vajpayee’s 93rd birthday on 25 December last
