Thomas Tuchel hired as new PSG manager
French football giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) signed Thomas Tuchel as their manager for next two years. Tuchel will be replacing Unai Emery at the league 1 champions.
Tuchel was out of job since 2017. He last managed German side Borussia Dortmund for the 2016-2017 season, during which they lifted the DFB-Pokal title last season.
Tuchel had a fallout with Dortmund’s management that led him to leave the club. He stayed there for around 3 years as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
According to The Guardian, PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, described Tuchel as “one of the most competitive European coaches to have emerged at the highest level in recent years”.
The first duty for Tuchel will be to get with club star player and world’s most expensive footballer Neymar Jr who will be the top target of Spanish giants Real Madrid, because if he leaves the club, PSG’s Champions League dream will get a major setback.
The former Dortmund boss will take over from Emery’after PSG’s final game of the season at Caen on Saturday. In his two year spell, the Spaniard led them to the Ligue 1 title this season but his side was eliminated by defending champions Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League by 5-2 on aggregate.
“It is with great joy, pride and ambition that I join this great global football club that is Paris Saint‑Germain,” Tuchel said in a statement released by PSG.
“I look forward to working with all these great players, all of whom are among the best on the planet,” he added.
