The Savitri biopic Mahanati, which features Keerthy Suresh in the titular role, is having a dream run at the box-office. With the film having won over audiences and critics alike, the team is buoyed by the overall response. While there’s no denying that it is Keerthy Suresh’s career-best performance, it’s also worth mentioning that Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganesan has stunned one and all, especially filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who can’t stop raving about the film.
At a meet organized by Telugu filmdom to celebrate the success of Mahanati, Rajamouli spoke at length about Dulquer’s performance. “Dulquer is mind-blowing even in the smallest scenes. As a director, I wouldn’t know how to make my actors perform some of the scenes in the film. It’s not easy to sell the philosophy of Gemini Ganesan, but Dulquer sold it with his performance.”

Dulquer has been earning praise for his performance from all quarters. He had recently said in an interview that he took up the role because he feels uncomfortable doing safe roles. Talking to news agency IANS, he said: “We all knew we were doing something important, something very special. To tell the story of legendary actress Savitri was something I believed in. This was a role away from my home territory in Kerala, hence an added challenge.”
Meanwhile, the film has grossed over Rs 20 crore in its opening weekend and has emerged as a blockbuster. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film was dubbed and released in Tamil as Nadigayar Thilagam. The film also stars Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Deverakonda, Rajendra Prasad and Shalini Pandey in key roles.
