In a shocking incident at the government hospital in Nakkapalli, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, 17 patients became severely unwell due to injection failures on Tuesday night. Among the affected were five children, causing widespread concern.
Patients’ Distress
Patients and new mothers from various villages in the Nakkapalli and S. Rayavaram mandals had been admitted to the hospital for the past two or three days. On Tuesday night, under the supervision of Dr. Jayalakshmi, nurses administered injections to these patients. Soon after, patients on the upper floor started experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Some even developed chills and fever.
Relief Efforts
Upon learning of the situation, medical officers began administering antidotes to the affected patients. Police and higher authorities were immediately informed. The hospital saw a significant influx of patients’ relatives, leading to chaos. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha spoke with the collector, and eventually, 17 patients were transferred to Anakapalli Hospital via ambulances.
Investigations and Actions
Medical officials reported that one patient, Simhadri, was in critical condition. Higher authorities have initiated an investigation into the injection failures. Hospital staff and locals hope for the speedy recovery of the affected patients.
